1930-35 Compagnies Fabre & Fraissinet: Lignes de Marseilles a la Cote Occidentale d’Afrique
By: R. Chapelet
Date: 1930-5 (circa)
Dimensions: 31 x 44 inches (78.74 cm x 111.7)
This wonderful map of western Africa was created by R. Chapelet in circa 1930 to 1935. This poster is celebrating the merger of two of the big three shipping companies out of Marseilles. Due to competition with Italian shipping companies in the Black Sea, the freshly merged Fabre & Fraissinet redoubled their efforts on the western coast of Africa. The transport of fruit as well as post was expanded at the time.
The map is wonderfully detailed using the fullest extent of interwar era geographic knowledge. Featured predominantly is a large ship in the design of the Corte II, with an extra smokestack. This wonderful celebration of prewar French shipping is a fine map fit for any collection.
Condition: This map is in A condition, with a slight dark line down the centerfold where the map was originally folded. Colors are vibrant and the map has been backed on sturdy white linen.
