By: Pierre Francois Tardieu
Date: 1801 (published) France
Dimensions: 8 x 17.25 inches (20.25 x 44 cm)
This map depicts Lake Ontario and Lake Erie and the Niagara River linking them, including the spectacular cataract of Niagara Falls. It was published to accompany the book Voyage dabs le Haute Pennsylvanie et dans l’Etat de New York, by Saint Jean de Crevecours.
The work is little known but provides some of the earliest information available regarding indigenous tribes living in the region of the two lakes. In addition to the falls, the map identifies Fort Erie, Fort Niagara, Fort Chippaway and the Grand Isle. Ships at full sail embellish both lakes.
Condition: This map is in B+ condition with a small separation at a fold intersection (lower center) and some faint toning along some folds. Map lays flat with full margins on all sides.
