An impressive sea chart showing the area around the entrance to Hudson Bay and the supposed Northwest Passage (hinted at by two open channels within Baffins Bay). This map is the second state of Gerard Van Keulen's map of Arctic Canada. The title cartouche features an Arctic Native preparing to kill a mother polar bear with cubs. In the lower left corner of the map, natives are packing supplies around a distance chart showing three scales of measurement that include Dutch, Spanish, and English miles. Numerous coastal towns and sea ports are labeled along tastefully colored land borders.
Condition: Map is in B+ condition with minor damp-staining along the top and slight color bleed within the cartouche.
