This is an authentic antique map of the southwest coast of Ireland by Johannes Van Keulen. The map was published out of Amsterdam, circa 1680.
This striking sea chart shows the coast of southern Ireland from Waterford to Dingle Bay. Other towns shown on the map include, Kenmare, Cork, and Dungarven. Anchorages and average water depths are noted along the entire coastline. An elaborate title cartouche features a bread making scene with women churning butter and milking a cow. In the lower right corner of the map, two cherubs kneel atop three distance scales showing Dutch, Spanish, English, and French miles. The seas are embellished with rhumb lines and vignettes of sailing ships, and two compass roses accented in gold.
Condition: Map is in A condition with exceptional old color, a fine impression, and ample margins and some very light soiling.
