This superb, fun, large-scale pictorial wall map by Georg Westermann stirs the imagination and brings to mind a simpler time.
Each country or region depicted is easily identifiable by its unique architectural edifices, its famous personages from the ancient past to the present, and its contributions to world culture. The map covers Europe in its entirety, extending southward to include northern Africa, westward beyond the British Isles, eastward to include portions of Russia, and northward towards the arctic circle.
Though no names are used, the civilizations represented are easily recognizable according to architectural monuments such as the Kremlin in Russia, ancient ruins in Egypt and Tunisia, the Alhambra and El Greco in Spain, Notre Dame and Voltaire in France, and on through each country easily identifiable cultural icons take the viewer on an enjoyable tour of the area depicted.
Condition: This map is in B+ condition. Separation along the left edge have been repaired with archival material on the verso. The wooden dowels at the top and bottom of the map are in excellent condition, and the self-tie intact.
