This is a colorful and informative wall map of Moscow and its surroundings with an additional maps of the inner city of Moscow and the Kremlin. The map was produced by Westermann Publishing, which was originally founded by George Westermann in Braunschweig, Germany in the late 19th century.
The map shows the growth of the city from the center outward with color and borders that represent the years 1500, 1550, 1600, 1650, 1800, 1900, 1935, and 1955. Many elements of the map are identified in the key, including highways, major and small roads, railways, subways and their stations, parks, forests, orchards, swamps, and graveyards. The map of the Kremlin presents the public buildings, parks and the surrounding wall with guard towers that were originally built out of wood in the year 1156.
This all encompassing map of Moscow brings together a wealth of useful data from the early 1960s as well as historical context in a way that is both easy to understand and pleasing to the eye.
Condition: This wall map is in A condition with no tears or holes. It is vibrant with color on clean paper that is backed with its original linen. Some light wrinkling of the paper is present in the bottom portion. The map is still attached to its original rollers that can be removed at the request of the buyer for framing.
