This lovely map by Nicolas de Fer is from the second edition of his Atlas Curieux, and depicts Central America, Mexico, the Gulf Coast, Texas, the American Southwest and Florida. It extends as far north on the Rio Grande as Santa Fe. The map is highly detailed in Central America, the Gulf Coast and Florida. As it was not published in every edition of his Atlas Curieux, it is quite scarce.
The map is embellished by an elegant title cartouche, a vignette featuring indigenous peoples and a second cartouche enclosing the longitude and latitude of Panama, Acapulco and the mouth of the Mississippi River.
