1821 Carte de L’Amerique Septentrionale…
By: Ambroise Tardieu
Date: 1821 (dated) Paris
Dimensions: 15.75 x 21.4 inches (40 x 54.4 cm)
This fine map of North America was published shortly after the completion of the Louisiana Purchase, and the first publication of the Lewis and Clark official report. The map depicts the territories of pre-Louisiana Purchase times including St. Louis, Arkansas and Lawrence, which are rarely depicted.
As much of the territory shown had yet to be explored, a good deal of conjectural information is provided, including examples such as mythical rivers in the west which flow from the Salt Lake region to the Pacific Ocean, and a connection between the Yellowstone and Columbia Rivers, showing a potential waterway to the Pacific. Tribal names of many indigenous peoples are provided. This is a nicely preserved example of this scarce map.
Condition: This map is in A- condition with bright original color over clean paper and full margins.
