California dreaming... This whimsical map of the “Golden State,” pays great homage to the variety of natural wonders, cities, universities, and activities one can enjoy in the state of California. At the time the map was made, America was captivated by the silver screen and actors/actresses such a Katherine Hepburn, Humphrey Bogart, Bette Davis, Clark Gable, and Cary Grant to name a few. The state was also undergoing a massive increase in population as a result of emigrants displaced by the Great Depression and the Dust Bowls of the 1930s. California offered an enticing future with an abundance of opportunity in agriculture and its temperate climate that still attracts millions of annual visitors to this day.

This fascinating pictorial map of California was published in 1935 by Ruth Taylor. It appeared in the atlas published by Taylor and her husband Frank Taylor entitled “Our U.S.A. - a Gay Geography,” with the maps done by Ruth and the text by her husband. The map provides local color and flavor, depicting cultural stereotypes, agriculture, industries and activities of the region.

Condition: This map is in A condition with full margins and rich color on clean paper.
