1708 Carte de l'Etat du Royaume de Dannemarck et Diverses Observations pour Conduire al'Intelligence de l'Histoire et du Governement de ce Royaume
By: Henri Abraham Chatelain
Date: 1708 (Published) Amsterdam
Dimensions: 13.5 x 17.5 inches ( 34.3 cm x 44.5 cm)
This is another exceptional example of Chatelain's work from his Atlas Historique, featuring Denmark, with hand-colored engraved illustrations of Fredericksbourg, Copenhagen, and a smaller view of Copenhagen from a different perspective.
In his usual thorough fashion, Chatelain provides a brief history of the country and its government. It's easy to forget that at one point England herself was under Denmark's rule, that from 1666 through 1917 Denmark was a European colonizer.
Tables beneath the lovely illustrations describe the ancient form of government; the order of the royalty of the kingdom and its principal officers as of 1680, including children and other considerations; remarks concerning the government; and the structure of ecclesiastical governance in the kingdom.
Condition: This remarkable map is in A condition. It is a fine imprint and beautifully hand-colored. The only condition issue is slight rolling of the centerfold which will be easily addressed when the folio page is framed.
