This copperplate engraving by Robert White features William Camden for the 1722 edition of "Britannia," Camden's history. The book was the first chorographical survey of the islands of Great Britain and Ireland. Chorography is the art of describing or mapping a region or district, and by extension such a description or map. Camden is also know for the "Annales," the first detailed historical account of the reign of Elizabeth I of England.
Antiquarian and historian Camden (1551-1623) is shown in his heraldic robes as the Clarencieux king-at-arms.
