This is an authentic antique print depicting the indigenous people of Canada and their industries. The print was created by Henri Abraham Chatelain and published in 1720 as part of his seven-volume work “Atlas Historique”.
Eight vignettes depict the lifestyle and industries of the natives of Canada, including their means of transport, wedding customs, funerary practices, fauna, and interestingly. A collection of hieroglyphs used by the Indians to describe their lives is also depicted. As was his custom, Chatelain accompanies illustrations with ample texts describing the illustrations.
Condition: This print is in C+ condition with light toning around the edges and along the center fold with foxing in some areas. There was a center fold and other minor separations in the lower margin that have been repaired on the verso. Print exhibits a strong impression, with full margins.
