By: Brue, Adrien Hubert
Date: 1821 (Published) Paris
Dimensions: 14.25 x 19.75 (36.2 cm x 50.2 cm)
This well-engraved antique map on heavy paper of Russia and the Arctic Ocean features the North Pole at the upper center of the map. Though not a true polar projection, it suggests one, as nearly the entire Arctic Ocean is depicted, and much northern territory on all sides surrounding the Pole is included. From the Pole it extends through all of northern Asia and Russia, including European and eastern Russia, and as far southward as China. Mountain ranges and rivers and all cities are clearly depicted. An inset in the lower right quadrant features Greenland, Labrador, and the area around the Hudson Bay. The map shows the results of intense exploration of the regions depicted.
Condition: This map is in A condition with original hand coloring. There is a small tear in the upper right hand border which does not reach the image.
