This eye-catching authentic antique hand-colored map by Henri Abraham Chatelain is a general map of Russia detailing the states of the Czar Emperor of Muscovy, showing his possessions in Europe and Asia. The map covers territories from Nouvelle Zemle in the north to Persia, Turkistan, Indpendente Tartarie and the Great Wall of China along the southern border. Also featured are the Black (eastern part) and Caspian Seas.
The atlas in which the map appeared was published in seven volumes between 1705 and 1720, with a second edition appearing in 1732. The maps were accompanied by information pertaining to cosmography, geography, history, chronology, genealogy, topography, heraldry, and costume of the world.
The map is bordered/ finely decorated with coats of arms, Russian coins of the day and explanatory panels in French, including keys to the important cities.
Condition: This map is in A condition with minor foxing, and a slight separation at a fold in the lower right border. Light roll fold in the left side of the map and minor damping.
