This authentic hand-colored antique map is a large format railroad map of New Mexico Territory and the earliest separately issued map of it in its modern configuration to appear in a commercial atlas. Details include early railroads, settlements, Mining Districts, Indian Reservations, Forts and other important early features.
Asher & Adams was one of the first United States atlases to exclusively feature railroad lines, showing minimal topography. This later edition show more topographical features than did earlier editions. Only towns that were near or on the railroad lines were featured in earlier editions. This 1874 version is the first to include a separate map of New Mexico Territory.
Condition: This map is in B+ condition, with light browning along the centerfold and some foxing in the lower portion, but overall bright color and clarity.
