Gallia Vetus ex Iulii Caesaris Comentariis
DESCRIPTION
This authentic antique hand-colored map depicts ancient France in the time of Julius Caesar, when France was occupied by Rome. The southern end of Britannia with the Thames is included along with a portion of Hibernia. Many historical places are denoted.
A splendid cartouche in the lower left quadrant is topped by a coin depicting Caesar himself and includes weaponry and imagery evocative of ancient Rome.
CONDITION
The print is in C+ condition with light toning and foxing in places. Archival tape for reinforcement has been added to the center fold on the verso.
