By: Joannes De Laet
Date: 1630 (Published) Amsterdam
Dimensions: 11 x 14 inches (27.9 x 35.6 cm)
This fine authentic antique map by Joannes De Laet, one of the founding fathers of the Dutch West Indies Company, covers all of the West Indies and the Bahamas and shows the coastline of Florida, and Central and South America. The islands, no matter how small, are named in the map.
This is another of the maps of Hessel Gerritaz, an early and important Dutch cartographer of the 17th century, whose maps were published by De Laet, one of the founders of the Dutch East India Company. Thanks to De Laet the maps of Gerritaz, which were primarily in manuscript form only, are available to collectors today.
The map is embellished by a title cartouche, a compass rose, and a banner containing three distance scales, in English, Dutch and Spanish.
Condition: This map is in B+ condition. Full borders with toning.
