1950 Africa [Cartocraft Slated Wall Map]
By: Denoyer-Geppert
Date: 1950 (circa) Chicago
Dimensions: 44 x 41 inches (111 x 104 cm)
This map of the African continent is a real throwback to mid-century classroom geography lessons. It is made with slated paper so that it could be used in the same manner as traditional chalk boards. Teachers could then fill in the borders with whatever data they chose to focus on for that particular lesson.
While the map clearly lacks geographic detail aside from political boundaries and major rivers, it is a real pleasure to look at and would ass unique decorative effect to any space. Due to the added weight of the slated paper, it hangs flat and does on roll or ripple in any section like traditional schoolhouse wall maps.
If desired, it could still be used as an educational tool with soft chalk and as noted on the map, cleaned with a "dry chamois or damp cloth."
Condition: Map is in A condition with no holes or tears. It is very clean and securely attached to its original rollers, which can be removed at the request of the buyer for more traditional framing.
