Date: 1932 (dated) Chicago

Dimensions: 24.5 x 30 inches (62 x 76 cm)

This is a lovely, original bird's eye view print of Lake Shore Drive from the top of the Water Tower signed by Raoul Varin and noted as a Final Proof in the lower left. These prints were later produced in greater numbers for the Century of Progress World's Fair, but none of those reprints were signed or numbered.

Looking north we see Lake Michigan with people, cars and boats scattered about. Located on modern-day Michigan Avenue (Pine Street in 1868), the stone Water Tower and the pump house survived the Great Chicago Fire in 1871.

This print is engraved in aquatint, which is an intaglio printmaking technique that produces a tone rather than lines, giving it a visual effect resembling a watercolor.

Condition: This print is in very fine condition with lovely color and full margins on all sides. The piece is currently framed and can be sold / shipped as such for an added shipping cost or removed from the frame and shipped alone at our standard low rate.
