Original hand colored etching from "Plates illustrative of the researches and operations of G. Belzoni in Egypt and Nubia" by Giovanni Battista Belzoni in 1822. Plate was etched by A. Aglio based on a drawing by S. Belzoni. Published in London in 1820 by John Murray.
Plate 22 overlooks a scene of the Nile river with figures smoking in the foreground, ships sailing towards a city in the background, and two pyramids in the distance on the left side of the image.
"As many as eight colours are used on one plate for the coloured illustrations, and the colouring is skilfully done" (Abbey). "This was the first English work of any importance to use lithography" (Blackmer). (Abbey, 268; Blackmer, 117).
Condition: Print isin very fine condition showing vibrant color on clean paper with wide margins.
