Original hand colored etching from "Plates illustrative of the researches and operations of G. Belzoni in Egypt and Nubia" by Giovanni Battista Belzoni in 1822. Plate was etched by A. Aglio based on a drawing by S. Belzoni. Published in London in 1820 by John Murray.
Plate 26 overlooks a scene of the Nile river overflowing a local settlement, showing the displaced peoples among their possessions and livestock.
"As many as eight colours are used on one plate for the coloured illustrations, and the colouring is skilfully done" (Abbey). "This was the first English work of any importance to use lithography" (Blackmer). (Abbey, 268; Blackmer, 117).
Condition: Prints are in very fine condition showing vibrant color on clean paper with wide margins.
