Etched by: Evert van Muyden
Date: 1893 (copyright) Philadelphia
Dimensions: 8.5 x 12 inches
An original late 19th century fine art print of a painting by the German artist, Rich. Friese, that was on display at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. This antique print, was part of the 1893 Geo. Barrie publication of Art and Architecture by William Walton.
The viewer is witness to a rather grisly scene of a lion and lioness feasting on a Buffalo. The painter's knowledge of the anatomy is note-worthy, as is the precise detail in the surroundings.
"The animals were presented on a large scale, and painted with great vigor and truthfulness of brush work, both they and the rocks and stones over which they crawled."
Condition: This print is in A condition on heavy 19th century fine art paper that displays an embossed Columbian Exposition stamp of authenticity. There are no visible tears, holes, or folds.
