An original late 19th century fine art print of a painting by the American artist, Edwin Lord Weeks, that was on display at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. This antique print, was part of the 1893 Geo. Barrie publication of Art and Architecture by William Walton.
This somber scene depicting India, shows an aging pilgrim, possibly dying, on his last stage to the holy city. The shore of the river is filled with spectacular architecture and activity. The original description that accompanies this print describes the work as follows;
"...........the heavy boat with its bronze-skinned occupants, the smooth, oily water, and the strange and mysterious city piled up in pyramids and terraceson the distant bank, hazy in the heat and spotted with great umbrellas like fungi."
Condition: This print is in A condition on heavy 19th century fine art paper that displays an embossed Columbian Exposition stamp of authenticity. There are no visible tears, holes, or folds.
