An original late 19th century fine art print of a painting by the American artist Wordsworth Thompson that was on display at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. This antique print,  was part of the 1893 Geo. Barrie publication of Art and Architecture by William Walton.

The artist chose a scene from the Colonial and Revolutionary period, the period of cocked hats, saddle bags and long riding coats.  The original description that accompanies this print describes the work as follows;

"His travelers arrive at the inn door, on an appropriately bleak and sad-colored eve, only to find the hostelry empty, and the boniface departed with all his train. No cheerful welcome, no blazing hearth, no glass of hot negus or other fortifier, no board and no bed."

Condition:  This print is in A- condition on heavy 19th century fine art paper that displays an embossed Columbian Exposition stamp of authenticity.  There is a corner missing in the margin, not affecting the image portrayed.
