This is an authentic antique map of Lake Forest, IL by H.R. Page & Company. The map was published in Chicago with a copyright year of 1881.
It’s not often that one finds a large format, double page map of a Chicago suburb from a late 19th century atlas, especially one of an affluent town such as Lake Forest. The map shows various land plats and their sizes, some with family names, divided among three main wards by Western and Deer Path Avenue. Parks are noted in green and tributary rivers feeding Lake Michigan are shaded. The Chicago and Northwestern Railroad and train depot is shown running north and south adjacent to Western Avenue. The two parks Academy and University are presently the site of Lake Forest College. Mayflower Park was eventually taken over by residential housing.
Condition: Map is in B condition with some separations that have been repaired on the verso using archival materials. The map presents itself with rich original coloring.
