This is an authentic antique map of Montreal, Canada. The map was published by the Universal Magazine out of London in 1759.
This fascinating town plan of Montreal or Ville Marie shows the French colony during the French and Indian War (or Seven Years War) one year before the city was surrendered to Great Britain in 1760. The capture of Montreal was arguably the most devastating blow to the French that ultimately lead to their defeat and end of the Seven Years War in 1763.
The map shows the walled city sandwiched between the St. Laurence River and a ridge of steep cliffs to the north. Several important places and areas are noted that include the Governor’s Palace, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, the Jesuit Church and Gardens, and the Arsenal and Yard for Canoes.
Condition: Map is in A+ condition; originally issued folding now flattened, with wide margins, clean paper and lovely coloring.
