This is an authentic antique map of Spain, Portugal and the Balearic Islands also showing portions of France and Morocco. The map was published by Alexis-Hubert Jaillot out of Paris in the year 1696.
This is an exceptionally detailed, map of the Iberian Peninsula that has been color coded by region and principality. Two striking, baroque style cartouches for distance and the French title grace the lower corners of the map. A separate title is included atop the map in Latin that reads “Nova Regni Hispaniae Accurata Descriptio, ad usum Serenissimi Burgundiae Ducis.”
Condition: Map is in B condition, with bold original coloring within the map and fresh modern color and gold heightening in the cartouches. There is light soiling, a few small abrasions along the centerfold, and an archivally repaired centerfold separation at bottom. There are a number of cracks caused by the oxidation of the green pigment, all of which have been professionally repaired on verso.
