This is an authentic, antique map of Goa, India by Matthaus Merian. The map was published in Amsterdam circa 1646.
This southern oriented map depicts the Portuguese colony of Goa, which is situated on the west coast of India and was a key port of trade for merchants. The map is very detailed with regards to the city landmarks, which are labeled with numbers and identified in a corresponding inset key. It is also not without decorative flourishes, the royal seal is printed on the left and the coastal region of the city is adorned with elephants and sailing ships.
Condition: Map is in B + condition with a strong impression and two centerfold separations on the top and bottom that have been repaired on the verso. Some extra creasing is apparent.
