Dimensions: 12.75 x 15.75 inches (32.5 x 40 cm)
This is a scarce variant of Robert Winn's map illustrating the historic rides of Paul Revere, William Dawes, and Dr. Prescott to Concord to warn John Hancock and Samuel Adams of the British force totaling some 700 men, coming to arrest them. Most examples of this map come folded with an additional map of Boston on the opposite side. This example was printed separate of the other map, unfolded, and made to look antiquated, a service offered by Robert Winn upon request.
Additionally, the map showcases Samuel Prescott's midnight ride, serving to warn Concord's residents of the impending British army advance aimed at securing its weapons and gunpowder. Other imagery and detailed notations refer to historical events and battles of the Minute Men, efforts of the colonists to hide arms and valuables from the British, and important buildings with the date of their construction. The map also features a detailed narrative in the lower left corner.
Condition: Map is in B+ condition with some discoloration along the margins from years in a frame. Image is clean with no tears or holes.
