This lovely and superbly hand-colored decorative map was created by Nicolas de Fer for his Atlas Curieux. It features the Caribbean and its islands, the coast of Central America including Yucatan, Honduras, and Panama. Northern South America is also presented.

Coastal towns, ports and cities are named, as is each island on the map. The southern tip of Florida and the islands of the Bahamas are also delineated. Text on the larger islands includes notes regarding the activities of Christopher Columbus, and other information regarding local activity in the late 15th century.

The map is embellished by a compass rose and a title cartouche in the upper right which includes information of topographical interest. A distance legend is in the lower right.

Condition: This map is in A condition, on hand laid watermarked paper with beautiful coloring over a sharp print impression. Margins are full with some contemporary numbered annotations.
