1938 Standard Globe by: Replogle - 12 inch
By: Replogle Globes
Date: 1938 (circa) Chicago, IL
Dimensions: 12 inch (diameter)
This is an attractive, early-WWII era desk globe mounted on a metal stand and entirely surrounded by latitude indicator. The globe was produced out of Chicago by Replogle Globes in 1938.
While the date of this globe (and many others) cannot be found printed on the piece itself, we are able to date it by examining the geo-political cartography. Europe is represented as it was just prior to the outbreak of WWII. Austria, while labeled is shown to be part of Germany as it was annexed by the 3rd Reich on March 15, 1938. What this globe doesn’t show is Poland divided between Germany and Russia or the Nazis “Blitzkrieg” in France.
While these clues lead us to believe this globe was made in 1938, we note that as a “circa” date because during WWII so many political borders were being redrawn that many globe makers stopped updating maps, instead they would sell globes with a coupon you could mail in later to receive updated stickers.
Condition: Globe is in very fine condition with only a few scuffs, scratches, and imperfections.
