1892 / 1907 Relief Map of the World on Mercator's Projection
By: Atlas School Supply Company
Date: 1892 / 1907 (Copyright) Chicago, IL
Dimensions: 34 x 48 inches (86 x 122 cm)
This is an original antique relief map of the World on Mercator's projection by the Atlas School Supply Company, constructed in 1907 out of their headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.
The map offers a combination of political geography, physical topography, and climatology in one raised relief image. Warm and Cold water currents are noted with their direction and isotherm lines for 80° and 50° are delineated across the map. While this map was published in the midst of the age of Antarctic exploration very little detail is given to the great southern continent, save for a partial coastline south of Australia named Adele Land which was discovered in January 1840 by the French explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville.
Condition: Map is in B+ condition with some light soiling in the map image, scuffs along the raised ridges and the outside border. The piece bows slightly but would still hang nicely.
