An scarce and extremely detailed pictorial map of Illinois by Robert Waldmire, published by the Frye-Williamson Press out of Springfield, Illinois in 1982.
The work has enough text and imagery to keep one busy for years. Everything from important buildings, history, industry, economics, and nature is covered in this map. The artist, Robert (Bob) Waldmire began his career as a student at Southern Illinois University. He is most well-known for his Route 66 themed works. He was an "ethical vegetarian," with a distinct love for nature and history. This passions of his is clearly rendered in his map of Illinois.
A self-portrait of the artist appears at lower left, with him sitting on a soap box sketching what one can assume is this map. Further down in the same corner are steps one can take if they care about wildlife conservation and helping to prevent further habitat destruction.
Condition: Map is in A+ condition presenting clean paper and full margins with no tears or holes. Map was rolled tightly for a long time but has since been mostly flattened and will present nicely if framed.
