An impressive and beautiful panoramic bird's eye view of the Japan, featuring the island of Honshu. The map was published on New Year's day, 1924 as part of the Mainichi Shimbun Newspaper, the oldest newspaper in Japan, established in 1871.
The view looks down on the main island of Honshu at a northwest orientation. Mount Fuji rises prominently at bottom center with the major cities of Osaka, Nagoya, and Tokyo presented respectively from left to right. Railways are delineated in black and white dashed lines and major roads in red. Physical topography is beautifully rendered in an array of green hills that darken with height.
This is an overall pleasing work of art and cartography emblematic of traditional Japanese style of the early 20th century.
Condition: Map is in B+ condition with a small area of marginal paper loss at top right. The view has been professionally linen backed for preservation and presentation purposes.
