This elegant sea chart of the Falkland Islands by Jacques Nicolas Bellin is from his ‘Le Petit Atlas Maritime…’, which covered the world to the extent it was known and is one of the finest marine atlases of its time.
The chart depicts safe anchorages, navigational hazards, and several ports. Notes concerning exploration of the islands are also included, such as Bourg S. Louis etablissement Francois en Janvier 1764 and les Isles d'Anicam decouvertes par differens v.aux Francois en 1700. The map is embellished with a simple title cartouche, a compass rose and a fleur-de-lys.
Jacques Nicolas Bellin was the first Ingenieur Hydrographe de la Marine of France, and also Official Hydrographer to French King Louis XV.
Condition: Map is in A+ condition with superb original hand color over and dark impression on clean paper with wide margins on all sides.
