By: Depository of Maps and Plans of the French Navy
Date: 1817 (dated) Paris
Dimensions: 23 x 17.25 inches (58.5 x 44 cm)
This masterful and attractive sea chart of the southern coast of France was created by order of the King of France for the Royal Nautical Depository (Dépôt), and bears the official seal of the Depository.
Rhumb lines radiate from three points in the Mediterranean off the coast of France. The chart shows the area in great detail, with the hazards it presents to navigation of it carefully delineated. Water depths and safe anchorages are indicated in places, as are areas of shallows. Some topographic details inland are denoted.
Condition: Map is in B+ condition with some damp-staining left of center but no significant tears and one very small pinhole that can only been found when held to a light. Overall appearance is very nice.
