This is a very rare sea chart of the east coast of Denmark with the island of Fyn. The map is oriented with west at the top with two lovely compass roses indicating north to the right.

In the history of early Dutch pilot guides, Blaeu's work holds a very prominent place. His guide, named "Het Licht der Zee-vaert," first published in 1608 in oblong format was made available in Dutch, English, and French languages. All of the charts in this publication were blank on the verso. It wasn't until 1632, when Colom published his "Vyrighe Colom," that any updates were done to these maps. Before then, Blaeu's charts were the only locally published works to be used by mariners of the region.

This lovely nautical map presents a title cartouche containing text in both Dutch and French, an intricate web of rhumb lines, depth soundings, navigational hazards, and anchorages throughout. It is a superb example of some of the earliest obtainable nautical charts during the golden age of exploration and map making.

Condition: This map is in excellent condition with slight ink smudging , suggesting an early imprint from the copper plates on which it was engraved.
