1865 Coronell's Grammar-School Geography

This is an extremely fine example of Sarah Cornell's Grammer-School Geography, published out of New York, NY by D. Appleton & Co. at the end of the Civil War in 1865. The atlas comes at a most interesting point in U.S. history, not only because the Civil War was concluding, but the drive of westward expansion and connecting the country by rail from coast to coast was underway and would change the dynamic of the nation forever.
The atlas is comprised of 27 maps with numerous inset maps, the majority of which focus on the United States. Many of the maps include proposed railroads, especially those of the western states and territories. Lesson include that of mathematical, physical, and political geography as well as information and descriptions of every state and most major countries throughout the world. At the end of the atlas are eight geographical and statistical tables providing a wealth of information from populations of people and livestock, to major exports, agricultural outputs, type of currency and value of imports among many other statistics.
Condition: This atlas is in A condition with little wear to the spine or covers, Some pencil scribbles are apparent in the first two pages, but not throughout the rest of the atlas. The maps are colorful and for the most part, without any staining or foxing.
