Thomas Bradford's map of Baltimore is one of the earliest maps of the city to be featured in a general atlas, published in America.
This engraved map shows the city of Baltimore and surrounding areas color coded by ward with all principal streets delineated and named, important buildings noted, piers, wharves, railroads, and rivers rendered in fine detail. The map makes a point to note identify Baltimore College and Battle Monument below the title and scale of distance.
Fort McHenry is prominently shown at the end of Whetstone Point. The fort was then known for a valiant defense during the Battle of Baltimore on September 13-14, 1814 that inspired Francis Scott Key to write the words to a poem that would become the national anthem of the United States, the Star Spangled Banner. The fort would later receive more fame and recognition during the Civil War and WWII.
Condition: This map is in A condition with original outline color and ample margins on all sides. Some faint staining is visible but mostly confined to the margins.
