Baird & Warner is a residential real estate company that began in March of 1855 with a $5,000 loan to Edward Casey & Brothers, taking security mortgages on property along Washington Street in downtown Chicago. After the Chicago Fire of 1871 the only surviving material was the company ledgers that were contained in a fire proof safe. These documents helped Chicago officials verify property ownership after the city's records were destroyed. After the fire, the firm raised $140 million from out-of-state investors to cover to cost of reconstruction. The company is still in operation today.

Condition: This portfolio is in B+ condition with some wear on the outer boards and some paper loss along the outside edges of the inner decorative page covers. The majority of the portfolio is in like-new condition.
