1861 Death of Richard II - Drawn by J Gilbert
By: London Illustrated News
Date: January 12, 1861
Dimensions: 16 x 10.75 in
A single page wood engraved print, showing the alleged moment of Richard II’s passing. After years of controversy and scheming to abdicate Richard, he was said to have willingly signed his own deposition. Immediately after, Henry Bolingbroke became king, and allowed Richard to live out his days in Pontefract Castle. Many accounts claim that he was unfortunately starved to death while being held captive, and this print shows several prison guards finding him in his final moments.
Condition: This print is in A condition, with no folds or tears. Mild toning around edges.
