1919 Jerome-Bisbee Copper Company Stock Certificate
DESCRIPTION
This is a stock certificate issued in the early twentieth century by the Jerome-Bisbee Copper Company, incorporated under the laws of Arizona and representing shares in one of the territory’s prominent copper ventures. The certificate reflects the formal capitalization of large-scale copper mining during the height of Arizona’s mining boom.
The certificate is engraved on green-tinted security paper with an ornate floral border and a detailed central vignette depicting miners extracting ore underground. Decorative guilloché patterns, a green embossed corporate seal, serial numbering, and period signatures appear on the face. The verso is printed in orange with formal transfer language, showing folds and light wear consistent with circulation and administrative use.
Historical Context
Jerome was among the most important copper-producing districts in the American Southwest, supplying metal critical to industrial growth and electrification. The town of Jerome was once known as the Wickedest Town in the West, when saloons, brothels, and opium dens lines the streets and gun-fighting was a common occurance.
