This original antique map by Johann Baptist Homann presents the Ottoman Empire, here called the Empire of the Turks, as it appeared in the early decades of the 18th century.
The map includes territories in Greece and Eastern Europe, the territories adjacent to the Black, Mediterranean and Caspian Seas, southern territories of the Russian Empire, Persia, Arabia, Egypt and northern Africa. Major geographical and topographical features are noted including river systems, mountains, forested areas, cities, towns and fortresses.
In the lower left is a decorative title cartouche showing Turkish soldiers and what appears to be a conquered individual offering riches to an Ottoman sultan, seated with his foot resting on a crucifix.
Condition: This map is in B- condition. Short tear with small loss of border repaired with archival material on verso, as is centerfold separation. Soiling in lower right quadrant.
