This interesting map of Mexico from the mid eighteenth century extends beyond the border to include as much of the region as possible. Bellin had much material for reference, as the Spanish had been mapping the region for more than two hundred years. The map is highly detailed showing mountain, rivers, cities and ports.

Jacques-Nicolas Bellin (1703- 1772) was one of the most important mapmakers of his day. By the age of eighteen he had already been appointed hydrographer (chief cartographer) to the French Navy. In August 1741 he was appointed official cartographer to French King Louis XV.

Condition: This uncolored copper-engraved map is in A condition with a sharp impression over clean paper and ample margins on all sides.
