A highly decorative and detailed map of Vatican City by an unknown artist / publication that is infrequently finds it's way onto the market. There are currently no other examples listed on OCLC. Though the artist and publisher remain unknown, this map stands as a striking homage to Vatican City, merging cartographic precision with religious devotion.

The central portion of the map features a meticulously drawn layout of the Vatican, highlighting key landmarks such as St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, the Vatican Gardens, and various papal buildings. Architectural details are finely rendered, emphasizing the grandeur and significance of the Holy See. The map is framed by an elaborate border adorned with religious iconography, decorative flourishes, and ecclesiastical symbols that reinforce the Vatican’s role as the heart of Catholicism.

Surrounding the central map are richly detailed religious vignettes that depict sacred spaces and key moments in Christian tradition. At the top, a large crucifix with radiating lines symbolizes the universal reach of the Church, accompanied by banners featuring a Marian emblem and the Chi Rho, an early Christogram. Along the sides, ornate panels showcase important Vatican sites, including the High Altar above St. Peter’s tomb and a listing of popes buried within the basilica.

Detailed architectural illustrations capture iconic features like the dome of St. Peter’s and the Vatican Gardens. At the bottom, the facade of St. Peter’s Basilica is flanked by two biblical scenes: Christ giving the keys to St. Peter, symbolizing apostolic succession, and Jesus washing the feet of His disciples, representing humility and service. The intricate border is adorned with floral motifs, angels, and religious symbols, creating a composition that blends geography with spiritual heritage.
