Dimensions: 18 x 24.5 inches (45.7 x 62.25 cm)

This is an attractive folding map designed for the "foreigner in Paris," by Auguste Legerot and published in 1843. The map provides a clear, visual guide to the city, highlighting key structures, landmarks, and tourist attractions in an enlarged and pictorial format. Some such landmarks include Norte Dame, Colonne de Julliet, Tuileries Palace (burned in 1871), The Obelisk of Luxor (brought from Egypt to the Palace de Concorde in 1836), and the Arc de Triomphe to name a few.

The map is color coded according to the boundaries of the original twelve arrondissements that were first established in October, 1795 during the first French Revolution. It was a reform measure, meant to strengthen the city both economically and administratively. The arrondissements are numbered on this map, arranged west to east across Paris, with 1-9 located on the north bank and 10-12 on the south bank of the Seine River. Surrounding the map is an extensive list of streets with coordinates to locate them on within.

Condition: This map is in A condition presenting bright colors and a sharp printing on clean paper backed with original linen that has not tears. The map comes folded as issued in its original marbled slip case.
