Unrecorded large sheet map of Colorado surrounded by portraits of all its governors, published in 1913 to promote the Rocky Mountain News, "Colorado's Great Newspaper."
This map of Colorado, prepared by the Geographical Publishing Company presents the state with outline color round county borders. A red do in each county indicated the location of the county seat and red lines stemming from only a few cities (Denver, Boulder, Golden, Trinidad, and Cañon City) delineate electrical lines. Though mountain topography's is not shown, the many rivers and rivulets can offer a sense of their shape and location.
Surrounding this map are portraits and dates of office for all 22 governors, beginning with Robert W. Steele who was governor of the proposed Jefferson Territory and for a short time the Colorado Territory before the seat was taken over by William Gilpin and ending with John F. Shafroth (1909 - 1913). Atop the portraits reads the promotion "Every Morning in the Year | Daily and Sunday, by mail or carrier, 60 cents per month."
On the verso, we find a large index for the map, several statistical tables derived from the 1910 census and two creative graphs comparing immigration and population of the United States compared with countries in Europe and Asia.
Condition: This map is in B condition, darkened with age but still offering vibrant color. The map has several edge tears, all of which have been reinforced on the verso with archival paper.
