This is a lovely nautical chart of the sound between Sweden and Denmark produced during the golden age of map making. This sea chart was part of Pierre Mortier's 'Le Neptune Francois ou Atlas Nouveau des Cartes Marines,' which is regarded as one of the most decorative nautical atlases of the era.
The map is oriented west, with north to the right as indicated by two decorative compass roses. The city of Copenhagen appears at the map center with a large inset of the area presented at the top of the sheet. The Swedish cities of Malmö (Malmut ou Elboge) and Helsingborg (Elzembourg) are rendered along with several other smaller ports.
Condition: This map is in B+ condition with original outline color. One area of the outline color along the coast of Denmark (left) has oxidized through the paper and been reinforced with archival materials on the verso. Area of light offsetting is evidence of the originality of the map.
