This is a lovely little map of the British colonies, published during the French and Indian War as part of Jacques Nicolas Bellin's Histoire Generale des Voyages. The map encompasses much of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and the Province of Maine. It extends far enough northwest to include the Montagnes de Apalaches, the Iroquois Nation, Lake Erie and Ontario.
The map includes a number of small towns and cities such as Philadelphia, Albany, Plymouth, Boston and Salem, to name a few. In Upstate New York, where war between the two European powers was in full swing, one can find many French and English forts of great historical significance. Some of these include Fort Niagara, Fort Anne, Fort Edward, Fort Frederick, and Fort Carillon, which today is more commonly known as Ticonderoga.
Vital rivers that served as highways of trade and travel into the interior are shown delineated according to the most accurate French sources of the mid-18th century.
Condition: This map is in A condition, with lovely hand coloring on clean paper that is slightly toned near the outer margins. The paper is in excellent condition with no tears holes, foxing, or staining of any kind.
