Unique map detailing Mexico’s early railway system in the last quarter of the 19th century. The map focuses on Mexico’s Central Railway, showing its numerous connections throughout the country and with the United States of America. The Central line runs from Mexico City to Paso del Norte, just across the border from El Paso, Texas. The operational portion of the line is delineated in red with circular dots, while the portions of the line under construction are defined by a similar red line with smaller rectangles. Shipping routes are also noted throughout the Gulf of Mexico and Pacific Ocean.
A key to the left also identifies other railways in operation and those in construction. An elevation profile of the Central line can be found just below the explanation key. The physical topography of Mexico is illustrated with green ink and the title is presented with a variation of type fonts indicative of the late 19th century.
Condition: This map is in B+ condition with some fold separation that has been repaired on the verso. The map was issued folded in a book, so such separations are quite common.
